The 1×4 KME Jende Silicone Carbide Carborundum Stones are specially crafted for aggressive sharpening needs, catering to serious profiling, repairs, and initial sharpening tasks. Among the available grits, the #80 grit stone stands out as an extra-extra coarse stone, swiftly eliminating metal while potentially leaving longer “whisper” scratches above the bevel. Despite its appearance, this stone excels in aggressive sharpening, serving as a reliable replacement for coarse diamond plates and other similar sharpening stones.
On the other hand, the #120 grit stone, also an aggressive extra coarse option, efficiently removes metal, aids in profiling, repairs, and initial sharpening. Although not as aggressive as the #80 grit, it still offers substantial metal removal and prepares blades for subsequent sharpening stages.
Both stones, measuring 1×4 inches, come mounted on steel blanks. They are exclusively designed for use with water and perform optimally when soaked for a minute or two before use. To maintain their efficiency, it is recommended to store them in a dry place between uses.
